Dear St John’s Food Share members, Volunteers and Community Family…
I am taking this opportunity to touch bases with all of you as we continue to move forward this new year. A monthly newsletter is still the planning stages, something we can all look forward to seeing.
Yesterday was perfect timing being the last day of the month of January ( wait, what ? ) as several of us gathered together to finish the public storage clean out. As always it seems one project over flows to another, as the arrival of our own storage container on Wednesday morning made that possible. Anyone present Wednesday saw a group in action, full speed ahead, doing every imaginable (and some unimagined! Think pizza that became a refrigerator ) task that propelled us forward. Looking around, it was so very clear that we are all part of an organization that works together !
Sometimes it may seem (certainly to myself and those involved deep in the projects we have begun that progress and ultimately completion is taking far longer than initially planned. Oh my, true that, yes? Then we have to remind ourselves that although progress may be slower than anticipated, we are moving forward. With a completely volunteer member base, as well as many “volunteer only” persons, we have to step back and look at the amazing accomplishments that all those participating are donating for the good of SJFS. The personal blessings are there, as is always the case when we give freely of our selves, but only because the goal in sight is based on overall benefit to not only our current membership but the future of SJFS and the community as a whole.
That said, we also encounter challenges along the way. Some may seem minuscule, some monumental. The most important thing to remember, IMHO, is that ALL challenges are opportunities. It is up to us, as the members, to join together and work towards turning that challenge into the opportunity for positive growth that is its true intent.
Strengthening all of us is really the core of our mission statement, again, my personal opinion. In order to become stronger, we have to act. Acting needs to take place with a sense of oneness, the benefit to the organization, with that end goal clearly in sight. Finding our strengths as well as our weaknesses, that’s what really brings us together.
This month you will see many of our projects completed. You will see many new opportunities, you will be able to work with some new ideas, and you will see growth on all levels. You will also see the beginning stages of new projects, each one planned to strengthen this amazing organization we are all part of and we all are grateful for.
Let’s all keep working together, sharing our SJFS with our friends and neighbors, helping each other as much as we can, and together we will see St John’s Food Share continue to grow and change lives in the process.
